Why Early Intervention

Early intervention accelerates development by building on a child’s strengths and supporting skills in weak areas to enhance overall development. The first years of life are a time of rapid development for all children. During this time of your child’s life, we can greatly impact your child’s cognitive, language, and motor skills.

Our student’s skills speak to the impact we can make on an individual with Down syndrome life.

Our students accomplish so much at Little Leaf, including learning to read and being potty trained before kindergarten. Your child can do these things and so much more when they start early. Let us help you and your child to reach your child’s fullest potential.

Little Leaf Learning Center is an early intervention program developed especially for children with Down syndrome. We are a small non-profit 501(c)3 providing Therapy and early intervention classes. Our classes are offered mornings, 8:30 -12:00 Monday – Friday.

Mommy and Me

We will be offering Mom and Me Classes for children under 18 months. These classes are designed to teach parents about their child’s development. They also focus on interventions you can do at home to help minimize the delays your child may experience due to their Down syndrome diagnosis. The cost for each class is $10.

Individual Therapy

Little Leaf has an amazing speech therapist who deeply understands the needs of children with Down syndrome. She is focused on developing oral-facial muscles and movements for safe feeding and speech production. She also incorporates receptive and expressive language concepts into therapy.

Little Leaf also has an outstanding occupational therapist who has worked solely with children with Down syndrome for the past three years. This gives her insight into the best practices for babies and toddlers with Down syndrome.

Little Leaf takes most insurances, including Medicaid; we will work with you to ensure you are not overburdened with medical expenses from our therapy services.

Early Intervention Group classes

Early Intervention classes are designed for children with Down syndrome from 18 months – to 6 years. Your child will have expert teachers using proven methods for teaching children with Down syndrome. Your child will develop speech, gross and fine motor, cognitive, and behavioral skills needed for success now and long term in their classes. You and your child will learn to potty train using a potty training method developed by Little Leaf. This method has successfully potty trained many children with Down syndrome. When starting the program early, children as young as two years can be potty trained. In most cases, our students are potty trained by entering kindergarten.

Classes are currently being offered Monday through Friday from 8:30 – 12:00. We now have a waitlist. Students must attend at least twice a week to be considered for enrollment.
